Being a Trail docent for CHER is a rewarding way to volunteer and support Calavera Trails.

There are approximately 50 Miles of  trails in and around CHER offering a vast array of hiking/biking/nature viewing opportunities for all levels. We strive to offer a variety of hikes/rides during the year and always need volunteer  docents. The training for CHER hike docents is offered via our online training course or during our 1 time a year in person training on CHER.

To start, complete the CHER docent online application: CHER Docent Application

During recruitment time (late spring – early fall), you will be contacted by Calavera Trails Coalition staff and scheduled for an interpretive training. Training materials will be provided. You will also be asked to shadow three hikes/rides as part of your training. You are encouraged to participate in CHER hikes or rides becoming familiar with Calavera trails and docent led hikes at any time of the year.

Once you have completed the required training and signed off by the program coordinator, you will be a member of our hike/ride docent team. Hike/Ride docents design and schedule their hikes within the CHER program. Hike/Ride docents can also help out with special hikes we do on request for visiting groups to the Reserve.
